Went to look at that RSX Type-S with my cousin today and it did not disappoint. Very mechanical solid, very clean, and the seller just seemed like a very honest nice guy who was also a mechanic engineer. So he probably wasn’t an idiot. The car drove like brand new. We found 3, no 4 issues which for a cheap car we’re honeslty kind of nit picky. 1 a slight clunk from the rear swap, a rattley cat heat shield, and Some oil on the back of the block pointing toward a leaky valve cover. Also the power steering pump appeared to be leaking a bit. Over all the car was in awesome shape, a deal was made, and my cousin has a heckin’ sweet Honda that I’m a bit jealous of. The only pic I took was this one in the seller’s driveway with my BIL’s Golf SportWagen which is also an amazing car. Torque for days, Wagon cargo space, and 60mpg what more could you want? And yes it’s manual. Seriously if you’re shopping in the 15-20,000 range right now consider a 14- 15 TDI.

The crazy thing is the car had 193,000 miles. Just goes to show a car taken care of, but driven will last longer than a car that sits. That Mazda6 we looked at least week had only 80,00 miles and was falling apart.

Nice RSX! What's the redline on the type S? Iirc the normal has a 7k redline.

Those cars are indestructible. If it is a base RSX, it has the same drivetrain as my wife’s 2002 Si has. At 200,000 miles we sold it and it is still running today. Engine goes 6000 miles to the quart, original clutch, axles, ball joints, AC charge .....everything. The clunk is the sway bar links, change them all. Also put some rock auto headlights on it and it will look like new!

Freaking nice. Man, I wish I was older so insurance would be cheaper for me on these. Damn teenage ricers, raising insurance costs on these. Edit: read back on your posts...he's only a couple years older than me? Insurance rates are gonna be pretty high for him. I'm just gonna assume he can afford it cuz I'm also broke. Anyways, still cool as hell.

One other thing, my wife’s Si suffered from less underbo dy corrosion than any car I’d ever seen including my ‘07 Si. In comparison, I saw a same year Protege in my buddy’s shop and which looked like a rustbucket. The 2 liter K motor RSX is really excellent car!

Very much agree on that point about mileage means diddly squat in comparison to proper maintenance and attention to detail. The 66k mile Saabaru I looked at was in worse shape than the STi that I bought with 136k on it. It's basically the same car so it was wild seeing that something must have gone wrong with the Saab to get to that status. Cosmetically it was a little cleaner but man were those mechanicals messed up. Your BIL can easily just spend a couple grand on some maintenance/upgrades and have a sweet ride that's as good as a car with half the mileage.

Wisconsin insurance rates are wicked cheap, and he’ll be going on his parent’s policy which helps a lot too.

Mechanicals are similar but not the same as the Civic Si. The RSX Type S has a 6 speed trans and about 40  more HP than the EP3 Si. It is also 200lbs heavier and quite a bit bigger.

Makes sense, I totally forget that I'm in Florida aka land of the idiots so that would apply to people here most. It's funny, to add me onto their insurance my parents would have to pay twice the amount they pay for both of then combined. Sucks also that its a law that as soon as someone gets their license they absolutely have to be insured, even if they don't end up driving. I guess it's a good thing overall but not for broke people like I.

Wow that’s a stupid law. Why would a  licensed driver pay insurance if they don’t own a car?

Yep, I didn’t realize it was a Type S. Still has the same goodness in the engine. I stand by the comment is that it is about as bulletproof as they come.

Something that I would comment on is people get obsessed with the miles too much and not as much about the owner. High mile cars get bad reps because often the owner bought them cheap and can’t/won’t maintain them. Change the oil? Never. Instead the run it till the oil light turns on and then add some more. The lesson here is here is when bottom fishing, buy based on the owner.

My favorite example was a prior discussion here about another RSX. Somebody was posting that they wondered if they should risk it’s purchase of it. I read the ad, and the seller indicated it had new Michelins. If you find a guy with new putting $600 worth of new tires on a $3500, 200,000 mile car just to sell it , buy it! If it has mismatched bald tires, ru n away no matter how good it looks!
